The Global RandD Technical Director will have the following responsibilities:
• Demonstrate visible leadership in safety program. Ensure safe laboratory and pilot plant operations; maintain visibility in the laboratory and ensure that all relevant safety processes are being utilised.
• Work with employees and Human Resources on all aspects of Performance Management; provide regular rewards and recognition for strong performance. Manage staffing including recruiting to fill key positions.
• Accountable for Powder Resins technology strategy and supporting RandD project pipeline. Manage research projects to develop new products, processes and applications using the Stage Gate system. Work with technical and commercial teams to identify and start new research projects.
• Manage European technical support activities for customers to deliver new business growth value. Support technical service activities in NA, India and other regions by working with regional leaders.
• Provide monthly and quarterly reports on the status and impact of key projects and group activities.
• Serve as a member of the relevant Business Teams, providing technical and strategic leadership; work with the Business Teams to manage their portfolio of activities, establish priorities and assign resources, and participate in the Portfolio Management process.
• Work closely with Process Technology on global initiatives and with manufacturing to provide plant support.
• Provide technical leadership to the global business in the area of Powder Resins.
• Visit key accounts, participate in industry associations, present information at conferences and trade shows.
• With Sr. Global RandD Director, develop and maintain business intellectual property.
• Maintain current awareness in application area and serve as an expert for evaluating MandA or other external opportunities.
• Network with greater RandD community. Identify and champion opportunities for cross business unit collaboration.

The Global RandD Technical Director must meet the following requirements:
• Ph.D. in Materials Science/Engineering ,Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline, OR an MS or BS degree with equivalent experience; 10 or more years of experience in RandD including experience in supervising other researchers.
• Strong experience in product and application development and in working with customers. Demonstrated ability to grasp diverse technical concepts quickly; demonstrated leadership skills in working with a business.
• Strong expertise in polymer science and coatings applications. Experience in the field of Powder Coatings and polyester synthesis strongly preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills with an established track record of collaboration and teamwork; strong written and oral communications skills.
• 20% travel required.
• Good knowledge of quality management systems is required (ISO 9001:2015: knowledge process competence, processing and evaluation indicators), safety and environment, management and communication techniques; use of the Office package and SAP.
• Knowledge of spoken and written English; knowledge and use of other foreign languages appreciated.
